I wanted to get community opinion on automatic resource submission to SWGCraft (http://www.swgcraft.org). This would include the resource name, type, and stats. Planet or specific location would not be provided.

I'm thinking this submission would occur daily so its kept up to date.

Good idea, or bad? I see both sides. Discuss below, I want your opinion!

I'd like resource submission. Even if the data we upload was just the resource name and class, that would help a lot even without stats. With stats would be even better, but typing the name correctly and picking the class are the most time consuming and error-prone parts of manually updating GH or SWGCraft. I think daily would be fine.

If this does go ahead. Why do we want to put it on SWG craft website. Please could it just be on this websites forum. I and others don't want to be checking a 2 nd website for info as well....

Im a No.

SWGCraft/GH already have the front end in place to display the resources from whatever Aso outputs. All they need is a file to input in correct format. It will be much easier to do that.

IT would involve re-coding everything they already have coded. I don't see any need/reason to recreate their efforts here.

It's a site just like galaxy harvester that's mostly useful to crafters (and gatherers).

It basically allows them to to try use or track down server best resources easily to make the goods everyone uses, like weapons and armor.

Both GH and SWGCraft have excellent, easy-to-use interfaces for finding specific resources in spawn, and for finding the best resources (in or out of spawn) to use in a specific schematic.

That would take a lot of coding for Aso to duplicate here - and why would he, when it already exists elsewhere?

I had to vote no on this one. Mostly because it would probably impact DE sales of IPS Droids. I do use GH and SWGcraft (most everyone does). My primary role in the game is crafting and I find it frustrating when I do finally find a high concentration site only to see a field of 80 harvs all owned by the same player. Yes, it can still happen but as it is I can usually get a few harvs down before the resource is posted on GH or SWGcraft.

It said it doesn't list the planets, which IPS droids could be used to track down cheaper (and probably quicker) than flying to all the planets to survey.

True, but there will be in impact. I use GH and SWGcraft but I've never been a big fan of either because they level one of the few competitive aspects of crafting that still exists which is finding and gathering quality resources in quantity (which others might miss).

By my own choice I spend an hour or two every morning tracking resources while most others are out killing Night Sisters or grinding Jedi or whatever else. It's not much of a crafting advantage since most resources do end up on GH or SWGcraft but it's something.

It just seems like another step towards making crafting a secondary or passive profession. GH and SWGcraft arn't going away but supporting them with automated updates is supporting a 3rd party system that benefits the passive crafter more than the professional crafter.

Instead of doing the crafter work, just throw on your armor and kill krayts until you get an email. Then run out and drop 80 harvs.

Some will complain that it's still to hard so what next? Get rid of random resources generation and just have one of each at max cap?

I know I'm in the minority. My game isn't the same that most are playing. I'm not in a hurry for anything. I spent 6 months gathering resources before I put up factories and vendors which I feel is a perfectly acceptable period of time.

I'm having fun playing a game I love without trying to WIN THE GAME in three days (whatever that is!)

Hang tough ASO! I know you (and all of us) want to attract new players and keep those we have. It's a strong argument against something that probably won't make much difference anyway. If this is a deal breaker for anyone then I concede and withdraw my argument.

I see your point Teu. I just feel that since we have 8 character slots the point is kind of moot. If you're going to make it easy with 80 lots and 8 characters

why not make it easy on he crafters. I don't know that there is anyone dedicated to crafting (other than you now), as a full time thing, just because

of the variety of characters we are allowed to use. I can't keep up with 1 let alone multiples. I know people who have dropped 20-30+ harvesters on a single

thing to stockpile multi-millions of it.

I do see your point though, and agree to an extent.

I'm a DE, and ISDs are a pretty small part of my sales. And the two players who I've sold the most ISDs to, used them to aid updating GH regularly. And this will reduce ISD usage some, but not entirely. I'll still use them to monitor resources on distant planets a couple times a day so I don't have a bunch of harvs sucking dust for a day or so.

As far as the other point, "80 harvs all owned by the same player", I hope you are exaggerating. Because I really doubt that a crafter who isn't using a single lot for a house is going to drop 80 harvs on one resource.

You'll still have the same opportunity as all of us to be first to put your harvs on any new resource.

I pretty much find my own and I am one who buys 8 lots to put 40 or 50 on something after all my lots are gone. I survey or check GH or hear something in general chat and go running to find it. Since I was the only person making food for a while my resources were getting low and I needed to put that many. I think right now I have about 30 on the tubers and 30 on something else and several on the doonium for our AS/WS and hand harvesting also.

It is kind of a moot point. Guess I'm just resistant to change and trying to salvage what little advantage (I think) I might have. I admit GH and SWGcraft have made my life easier as well.

I have 7 toons and have most of the crafting professions covered. I have a TKA/Commando in progress but other than that the closest thing I have to a combatant is a CH/Pistoleer/Scout with some Ranger which works good for me because I don't like to buff or mess with armor. I don't want to give up any of my 8 character slots but I know that those 8 slots per person is what is probably the main reason the server economy is kind of messed up.

I certainly don't depend on anyone so why should anyone depend on me?

What to do? I certainly don't know!

Good discussion though. Perhaps something worthy of another thread if there are any other craft focused players out there that want to chime in.

Hay Isispe

I wasn't dogging anyone for dropping large numbers of harvs. I do the same when I can. That's a fair playing field as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not very social and I've refereed to myself as one of the hermits of Naboo but you are one of the few there before I was (probably taking up all the prime harv spots).

Pssst. not tubers, Kiirium Steel!

It's a secret, no one posted it on GH yet and it's been in spawn for 2 days.

It's crap but a rare spawn.

If we had an automated system you might be able to find a 10% yield for your harvs.

Teu,

I get where youre coming from and part of me feels compelled to try to protect that fun aspect of the game for you. So im definitely not trying to dismiss your concern, I think it is absolutely valid. But, I just see this as the good from this change ultimately out weighing the bad.

I think for example a change like this will help more crafters get started (which this server is in desperate need of). And while that may compromise some of the earned advantage one gets currently from doing the resource leg work, the trade off I think is a big advantage collectively for the server. More crafters is a really good thing for the server.

Also, I wouldn't discount the tremendous service that the crafters we have now are performing for the benefit of the aerver. What seems to be perceived as "the rich getting richer" and people "putting down 80 harvesters" as being only for the benefit of the crafter. In several cases, there are only 1 or 2 craters making a certain item, and a lot of times they do so out of necessity, not because it is how they get the most enjoyment out of the game.... a sacrifice for the betterment of the server.

If this is what those people need to make their lives easier (so that they can continue to provide those services) then I feel like I have to vote for that.

Well, that's funny. Word of that one spread quickly through chat, and I know at least 2 or 3 others were on it within an hour of when I found an 84% spawn of it with a couple dozen harvs or more total between us.

I concede that auto posting vs player posting is such a minor difference that it hardly matters. GH and SWGcraft are not going away.

I think where it will make the most difference is not in high-demand or server-best resources (which tend to spread by word of mouth in chat quickly anyways), but in less common spawns for specific resource classes. For example, I've been waiting several weeks for any Lidium extrusive ore to spawn, just for droid storage modules.
